Yitzhak Yedid
Dr Yedid has been acclaimed as one of the world’s leading composers of third stream music. A master pianist and distinguished composer, he has received numerous international awards. In 2009, he was awarded the Israeli Landau Prize for Contribution to Jazz, and in 2006 he received the prestigious Israeli Prime Minister’s Prize for Classical Composers. He also won First Prize at the International Oud Festival in Israel for his composition Oud Bass Piano Trio.
Inspired by literature, philosophy, art, and landscapes, Yedid’s compositions create rich narratives of texture, colour, and emotion. His music blends classical forms with free improvisation, alongside Eastern and Jewish musical traditions, resulting in a highly original and distinctive musical voice.
Yedid has performed at renowned venues including Jordan Hall in Boston and Lincoln Centre in New York. Together with the Yedid Ensemble, he has presented his works at festivals and concert halls throughout Europe, Canada, the United States, Asia, and Africa. His music has received extensive international critical acclaim.
“Yedid integrated specific stylistic influences into a personally created unity. The manner in which he describes folkloristic influences and melancholic themes can remind one of Béla Bartók; improvisatory floating hovering à la Keith Jarrett.”
— Åke Holmquist, Norra Skåne (Sweden)
He has released 11 internationally distributed CDs through labels including Challenge Records International, Sony, MCI, Muse, BTL, and Kaleidos.
Since 2007, Yitzhak Yedid has been based in Australia.
