Flute Lessons

Now we're talking. This is learning an instrument on hard mode.

All those other ones, you know, the other woodwinds and what not, they all have similar fingering and reeds and stuffs. And sure, we all use our breath to get going and fire up our instrument... But this one, yeah, this is for those who want a challenge!

The flute is described as beautiful, silvery and bright in tone. But it can also be warm yet cold, pure yet feathery, dark and also breathy. Behind the scenes is a serious amount of hard work and talent to make all those descriptions come to life.

I love this instrument. We have a tough role to play in an orchestra, a fun one in concert bands a rare spot in a jazz group and an essential spot in folk tunes. It's a sincerely rewarding instrument with a steep learning curve but very fulfilling destination.

For flute players, we normally all begin our journey with folk and classical works, sometimes some pop and jazz even. But there's so much more as the journey unfolds, and if you're looking for a refresher or something very modern and different, I think I know just the right composers to listen to.
