Emily Thornton

I am an experienced flute teacher with ten years of teaching experience, offering lessons for beginner to advanced students of all ages. Whether you are picking up the flute for the first time, preparing for exams and auditions, or looking to refine your technique and musicianship, I tailor lessons to suit each student’s individual goals and learning style.

I hold a Bachelor of Music (Performance) and Bachelor of Criminology from the Australian National University and am undertaking postgraduate research in Musicology at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. My background as both a performer and researcher informs my teaching, helping students develop not only strong technical skills but also a deeper understanding and appreciation of music.

I recommend 30-minute lessons for younger beginners and 45–60 minute lessons for students aged 11 and above, depending on their experience level and goals.

I have enjoyed every minute of my musical journey and encourage anyone interested in music to give the flute a try. My teaching focuses on creating a positive, supportive, and engaging learning environment where students can build confidence, develop strong musical foundations, and discover the joy of making music.
