Isabella Thomas

I am a Melbourne-based freelance trumpeter and teacher, recently returned from having spent the year in Sydney with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra as their 2025 Trumpet Fellow. From 2022 to 2024, I studied at the Australian National Academy of Music (ANAM) and was mentored by Yoram Levy and David Elton. In 2021 I completed my Bachelor of Music at the Te Kōkī New Zealand School of Music (NZSM). I have ten years of experience teaching the trumpet, privately and in schools, and I hold a valid Working With Children Check.

In 2025, I’ve had many exciting musical experiences, such as working in the Sydney Opera House with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, and performing in prestigious concert halls around Europe with the Australian Youth Orchestra.

During my tenure at ANAM I had the opportunity to play concerts with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, Sydney Symphony Orchestra, the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra brass section, and Auckland Philharmonia. My musical interests and areas of expertise are diverse – I enjoy everything from orchestral and brass band music to jazz and pop.

If you are eager to explore (or return to) the trumpet/cornet/flugelhorn, whether in classical or other genres, I would love to help you on your musical journey!
