PIANO – FUN, EDUCATIONAL LESSONS based on effective music learning methods. With my 30 years of teaching experience, I guide students towards being their musical best and I set up students for success over the long term.

Schools where I have taught piano: UNSW, Central Coast Conservatorium (3 years), The King's School (5 years), St Aloysius' College (4 years), Abbotsford Public School (4 years). Directions in Music (9 years).

From age 9 to 24, I learnt from Sydney Conservatorium concert pianists, Elizabeth Powell, Head of Piano, and renowned pianists, Lyall Duke and Gerard Willems. Ergonomics - I train wrist and finger positions for good hand health and so you can truly make the piano sing.

THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW – Piano

  1. PIANO OR KEYBOARD? Students learn faster on a traditional ‘real’ acoustic, upright piano which produces a beautiful singing tone. Keyboards are okay for the short term. Intermediate to Advanced students, best on upright and grand pianos.

  2. ADULTS LEARNING – untap your musical potential and artistry. Unwind after work and on the weekend with piano. Study your favourite music from classical to movie themes, rock and pop songs you love.

  3. CHILDREN – FOUNDATION WORK, gain good skills with regular practice work for success. Lessons delivered in a fun way.

Once you get a few pieces you love under your belt, spur yourself on to build a play list. Schedule in 4 to 6 practices a week to make good progress. Three practices per week is do-able for steady progress, but not as efficient to develop 'muscle memory' and make fast progress.

For all, try and stick at the piano for about 4 years, the reward is gaining an artistic life skill. I teach students for 4, 8 and 10 years, this makes learning, progress and the method consistent and uninterrupted,
