I have experience teaching students from ages 5+ including adults, of all levels complete beginner to advanced including preparation for diplomas (AMusA/ATCL/DipABRSM)
Location in central Sunnybank, under 5 min walk from Macgregor State Primary School.

I believe that with the right guidance and some effort, everyone is capable of playing the music they love with high proficiency and ease on the piano.
As a teacher my goal is to help students develop a deeper appreciation of music and cultivate a lifelong skill of piano playing.

Being classically trained, I primarily teach learning from sheet music and encourage learning to read music notation
I am happy to teach playing by ear at a basic level but do not have extensive experience in more aural or improvisational styles i.e. Jazz.

Focal Points of my Teaching:

• Training students' aural awareness in every piece of music. A keen ear always leads to stronger playing ability
• Developing ergonomic technique through body awareness and economy of motion
• Building a habit of deliberate practice, emphasising intentionality and effort, not only time spent
• Setting consistent practice schedules that will be productive but are realistic and sustainable
• Strategies to minimize tension and avoid injury for pianists with smaller hands
• At advanced levels, exploiting the range of timbral/tonal/colour variations possible on the piano
• Using methods informed by evidence-based pedagogy research
