30 + years of experience teaching violin
Bachelor of Arts in Music from University of California Irvine
My teaching career spans over 30 years, starting in the United States and continuing in Australia since 2002. I teach in my home studio after school and on Saturday mornings.
I take part in professional development opportunities through the Suzuki Association of Queensland and continue to benefit from sharing ideas with other teachers. I have extensive experience teaching small children, teens and adults from beginning to advanced levels.
For Children: Parent participation in music learning is essential. It is important for the parents of children to be aware of what happens in the earliest lessons, and to be full partners in learning with their children. It is also important to understand how progress happens daily, following a home routine that is beneficial to learning music. For this reason, the first 2 lessons are between parent and teacher, and first meeting before parent lessons is free without obligation. My teaching is not exam-based, and progress is measured in my studio by the pursuit of beautiful posture, tone and intonation.
If you are an adult beginner, or returning to playing your instrument, I can help tailor a learning plan that suits your interests and helps you to develop in your technique.
Each of my students must be committed to taking 8-10 lessons per term (measured by the state school calendar.) Casual or occasional lessons are not available. A violin of good quality is required.
