The recorder is a vastly underrated instrument and a great introduction to the woodwind family and to music in general. It is also very cheap!!
I teach all styles and recorder is especially good for celtic music and classical music at an advanced level. But for lots of younger students I start them off with easy popular tunes and their favourite pop hits if they aren't too difficult.
