Shuhei Lawson

Hi! My name is Shuhei Lawson and I am a graduate of the QLD Con (Bachelor of Music in Performance) and alumni of the prestigious Australian National Academy of Music. I was a cellist with the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra between 2024-2026, however I moved to Brisbane early April 2026 to begin my new job with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra as Assistant Principal cello.

In the area of teaching, I’m very flexible and happy to teach from any level. I can help with preparing for practical AMEB exams, competitions and auditions. Many of my students have sat AMEB exams, passed high school and youth orchestra auditions. I have taught at many schools in Brisbane, Melbourne and Adelaide including Samford Valley Steiner school, Sophia Mundi Steiner School (Melbourne), Gregory Terrace, Queensland Academy of Maths, Science and Technology/Creative Industries, Prince Alfred College and more. I have also taught at the Australian Youth Orchestra National Music Camp, and Adelaide Youth Orchestras.

I’ve played with many ensembles/orchestras including Orchestra Victoria, Queensland Symphony Orchestra, Adelaide Symphony Orchestra, Tasmania Symphony Orchestra, Australian Chamber Orchestra, Mahler Chamber Orchestra, Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra, Orava, Australian and Goldner String Quartets and many more!

I also have a great deal of experience competing in music competitions and eisteddfods. These include placing first in many of the Brisbane Eisteddfod’s and 2nd prize in the Enkor International Music Competition.

My rates are:

$50 for half an hour

$80 for 45 minutes

$100 for an hour

I can travel to your place, with an additional travel fee. This is dependant on where you live. I am based in Ferny Hills and have a teaching studio in my home. I also hold a valid Blue card.
