Violin Lessons

Hi, my name is Sophie. I have been teaching violin since 2020 and graduated from the University of Melbourne in 2025. I have been awarded the AMusA in violin performance (AMEB), and have completed Grade 6 Music Theory. I studied violin with Ivana Tomaskova.

During lessons, I focus on refining my students' technique (bow hold, intonation, posture and sound production), building on their music literacy (reading sheet music) and developing their musicality. I am experienced and thorough in preparing students for performances/exams and can provide piano accompaniment if needed. My violin students have completed AMEB exams and have participated in the Victorian State School Spectacular.

I create a learning environment where my students can open up and be themselves, and feel at ease in experimenting with their music-making and self-expression. I provide students with guidance on analysing and interpreting musical texts, and give specific and actionable practice advice so that they experience a well-rounded musical education. When working with students, my approach is collaborative, person-centred and neuroaffirming. In running a lesson, my priorities are that my students feel emotionally regulated, have fun, and derive value from the material we cover and the guidance I provide.
