FULL BIOGRAPHY:

Tim Stevens began studying the piano at age 5, attained his LTCL performance diploma at age 17, and has been teaching piano since 2013. He completed his Bachelor of Music (2018) at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, majoring in Music Education. His studies encompassed a diverse range of repertoire, with a focus on Romantic composers, including Chopin, Liszt, Rachmaninoff, and Debussy.

As a pianist, Tim performs with lyricism and expression, typical of the Romantic style. Tim also holds a Master of Education from the University of New South Wales (2024), where he studied advanced educational topics including learner motivation, academic self-efficacy, and curriculum development. His teaching integrates musical training with contemporary educational research, allowing lessons to be both technically rigorous and responsive to individual learner needs.

Influenced by his classical training, Tim prioritises foundational skills of technical security, rhythmic accuracy, and sight-reading among beginner students. For advanced students, Tim emphasises lyricism, clearly voiced melodies, supported through wide listening and the development of aural skills. Tim has several years of experience as a classroom music teacher, demonstrating extensive knowledge of lesson design and individualised education plans to align curriculum material with student goals. He has successfully taught students with a wide range of abilities, from complete beginner to AMEB Grade 8 and Certificate of Performance.

Tim places strong emphasis on creating a supportive and respectful learning environment, particularly for students who benefit from structure, predictability, and encouragement in building musical confidence. He has extensive experience teaching students from diverse backgrounds, including those with ADHD, ASD, and mild to moderate intellectual impairment, adapting lesson structure and pacing to support individual student needs.
